Cleveland

staircase

This may be the most beautiful staircase in the entire world. It appears to be white marble and spirals gracefully up from the ground floor of the Cuyahoga County Courthouse in Cleveland, Ohio.

That's right - this is not the grand staircase in a grand European castle. Nope, just a way to get from the first to the second floor of a government building in Ohio.

Sure, why not? Why install a plain old set of stairs, like other government buildings have? Cuyahoga county obviously had a lot of class. And, the money to pay some incredibly skilled stone carver to create and install this mega chunk of marble into just the right place.

So the clerks and bookkeepers could feel inspired as they run up and down these gorgeous marble steps on their way to file papers and write ordinances. Of course.
